The May 2007 issue of Shape magazine is out!

Unfortunately, I was lied to, and the magazine was incorrect in what it printed.

The woman who wrote the article promised me that I would be allowed to read the final article before it printed, given the personal subject matter.  The fact checking department at SHAPE  told me this was incorrect, I would not be allowed to read the final article, and 'glossed' over the basics of what the article would contain.

Contrary to how the article may appear, I did not say much of what was attributed to me.  It was written in the first person, but those are not necessarily my words.

The article gives the impression I got herpes from some random person I was briefly involved with.  Not true.  The neglects to state that I got herpes from a man whom I was engaged to.  Further, it states I was afraid to tell family and friends about my having herpes...and that is the furthest thing from the truth.

I have written a correction, and it stands to be seen if that correction is printed in the next issue of the magazine.

It would have been nice if the information they printed about me had been correct in the first place.

At the very least, information about herpes is getting out there for public consumption.
